Replika started the category and is still the most polished app for a companion who checks in on you every day. She remembers your plans, asks how your day went and supports voice and video calls. You can set her up as a friend or a partner, but romance stays non-explicit. Free text chat is enough to see if it suits you, with voice and extras on the paid tier.
Pi is a different kind of companion.
